Ocean Earth Pro Awaits Surf

October 21st, 2009

The Movistar Ocean & Earth Pro, an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series event, is taking place on Gran Canaria Island in the Canary Islands with the waiting period starting Wednesday, October 21st and running through to Sunday, October 25th.

It’s the second-to-last event of this year’s ASP European WQS tour, and it puts the regional tour at one of the most spectacular waves on tour, El Confital, a perfect right point break over a reef bottom that has delivered some of the most exciting heats on tour in the past.

With a field of sixty-four men readying for the coveted event offering valuable points and dollars counting for this year’s regional ratings, the Movistar Ocean & Earth Pro promises five days of excellent professional surfing, the reduced number of surfers giving organizers the opportunity to hold heats in ideal conditions.

“The surf fore is showing a very promising swell for the event,” event promoter and Ocean & Earth representative Federico Garcia said. “A solid swell in the six-foot range should hit El Confital in the second half of the week and there’s a good chance we get classic conditions.”

Renowned for its fast barreling waves breaking over a shallow challenging reef, El Confital will once again be the attraction of the ASP WQS 2-Star event. Having seen the rise of many of the world’s best surfers including current ASP World Tour rookies Michel Bourez (Tahiti, PYF) and Nic Muscroft (Victoria, AUS), two former event winners, the Movistar Ocean & Earth Pro is ready for another show with event top seed and Canarian surfer Jonathan Gonzalez (Tenerife, CNY) in the starting-blocks.

“It’s one of the best events on tour and we’ve always had great waves there,” Gonzalez said. “I am from the nearby island of Tenerife and there is no way I would miss the event. Some solid waves are predicted so I am looking forward to competing at El Confital again.”

A Balanced Earth

October 15th, 2009

OK – we’ve scoured the internet and have found this guy who is proposing a project, (for graduate school maybe?), where he uses an Indo Board along with some multi-media to “explore the properties of balance and how difficult it is to create a balanced sustainable world.”

Sounds kinda out there, but interesting at the same time!

Don’t Be A Skateboarding Jerk

September 30th, 2009

Skateboarders already have a bad reputation and it doesn’t help our cause when skate park patrons act so badly that their own park gets closed by the city!!

Seems a bunch of unruly kids repeatedly broke the rules at the local skate park in Burrillville, RI, and  enough complaints were made that, “after all options to resolve the bad conduct of the juveniles who frequent the park were unsuccessful”,  the park was shut down, according to town officials.

The Harrisville park is now off limits to skaters. Skateboard ramps and other equipment will be disassembled this month and put into storage until the spring. At that time, town officials will reevaluate the situation and decide whether or not to re-open the park.

What a waste! What idiots! We hope our customers who use the Indo Board to improve their skateboarding have enough sense to follow the rules at their own skate park and can act like mature and responsible citizens so we don’t see more skate parks closed!!

Don’t Flush Your Pharmaceuticals

July 14th, 2009

In the first nationwide study of human drugs in fish tissue, the EPA has determined that the fish caught near five major U.S. cities’ wastewater treatment plants contained pharmaceutical residues!!

These residues included medicines used to treat high cholesterol, allergies, high blood pressure, bipolar disorder and depression.

Scientists have linked pharmaceuticals with disturbing ecosystem changes. For example researchers demonstrated that the feminization of fish was associated with exposure to sewage effluent now known to contain ethinyl estradiol, the active ingredient in birth control pills. They found male carp and male trout producing vitellogenin, an egg protein usually found only in females.

If  you have old prescriptions you need to get rid of take them back to your pharmacy – don’t dump them down the drain where they will eventually make their way into our waterways and oceans, (no matter how far you live from them!!).
