Don’t Be A Skateboarding Jerk

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Skateboarders already have a bad reputation and it doesn’t help our cause when skate park patrons act so badly that their own park gets closed by the city!!

Seems a bunch of unruly kids repeatedly broke the rules at the local skate park in Burrillville, RI, and  enough complaints were made that, “after all options to resolve the bad conduct of the juveniles who frequent the park were unsuccessful”,  the park was shut down, according to town officials.

The Harrisville park is now off limits to skaters. Skateboard ramps and other equipment will be disassembled this month and put into storage until the spring. At that time, town officials will reevaluate the situation and decide whether or not to re-open the park.

What a waste! What idiots! We hope our customers who use the Indo Board to improve their skateboarding have enough sense to follow the rules at their own skate park and can act like mature and responsible citizens so we don’t see more skate parks closed!!

Skateboard Champ Hurt But Happy

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Sam Schoonderwoerd, from Carlsbad, CA,  won the Gatorade Free Flow Tour skateboarding contest earlier this month but had to sit rather than stand at the podium to receive his award.

Seems the 13 year old champion re-injured a nagging groin injury on his way to winning the vert competition and accepted his award with ice bag in hand, or should we say groin.

“It feels really good, but I’d be a lot happier if I wasn’t in pain,” said Schoonderwoerd. ” I tried to do every trick – inverts, flips, twists – and I stayed on almost the whole time. It’s the best I’ve done.”

With the victory comes a trip to the national finals in Salt Lake City from Sept. 17-20. Let’s hope Schoonderwoerd can get himself healed up in time for his next big skate.  :-)

Skateboarding Parrot Kidnapped

gordo

We know lots of our customers here at Buy-Indo-Boards are avid skateboarders so we thought this news flash might be of interest to you!

Seems this 30 year old skateboarding Guatemalan parrot named Gordo, was stolen right off the front porch of his owners house in Baldwin Park, CA on Wednesday.

The act was caught on a neighbor’s security camera but the bird-napper has yet to be captured by local police. Needless to say his owner, Frank Mirales, is devastated and hopes whoever took Gordo will have the heart to bring him back…

New Skateboard Park in Victoria Texas

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

For all of our skateboarding customers here at Buy-Indo-Boards.com who live in Texas, you’ll be happy to know that yesterday in Victoria, TX, more than 50 skateboarders and community members joined together for the official grand opening of  the city’s first skateboard park. The skate park has been “un-officially” open since December 2oth and has been popular with local skaters.

The city’s Director of Parks and Recreation, Doug Cochran, has been happily surprised by the skatepark’s popularity.

“Never in my wildest dreams would I envision it being like this,” Cochran said of the turnout. “I never thought I would see this many kids out here.”

Boards Not Bombs

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

OK, file this in the “sounds cool but will it work -and why are you doing it” column: there’s an American millionaire who wants to put skateparks in Iraq!!

Llewellyn Werner says his project has the potential to transform Baghdad from a volatile war zone into a shining hub of Middle Eastern commerce and tourism.

“Iraq is a war zone,” Werner acknowledges. “But it’s transitioning into an economy supported by the world’s second-largest proven reserve of oil.” And unlike Afghanistan, “which is another basket case,” Iraq has the resources to rebuild its infrastructure after decades of dictatorial rule, sanctions and post-invasion ravages. It’s estimated that the country “will spend between $80 and $100 billion over the next four to five years rebuilding their economy,” he says. “That’s a tremendous entrepreneurial opportunity.”

Nobody skateboards in Iraq now but Werner plans on bringing skateboards and skateparks in with a little help form the military.

Shameless plug: Until they get those boards and parks they can always hone their skate and balance skills with an Indo Board. :-p
